Mr. Roy Young brings a wealth of knowledge in management, community and international relations. Before migrating to the United States, Mr. Young was a career public officer in his native Belize. He served in several senior positions in the Ministries of Social Development, Local Government, Tourism and Home Affairs, including as Mayor of Belize City.
He represented the Government of Belize on assignments at the annual session of the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva, Switzerland, in Mexico, Cuba and Puerto Rico.
Shortly after his arrival in California, Mr. Young was appointed to the diplomatic post of Consul General of Belize and served in this capacity for over nine years. From August of 2005 to March of 2008, Mr. Young assumed the office of Dean of the Los Angeles Consular Corps, the third largest corps in the world, comprising of over one hundred representatives of foreign countries.
In recognition of his outstanding service, he was conferred the special title of Dean Emeritus by the Corps. As Dean, he established relationships with diplomatic, political and business leaders from the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe. Mr. Young is the recipient of awards from the Los Angeles City Council and Los Angeles County for promoting international relations and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health for participation and support of Bi-national Health Programs. Also The Wiley W. Manuel Award for pro bono legal services by the Board of Governors of the State Bar of California.
Mr. Young holds a diploma in Social Administration from the University College of Swansea, Wales, certificate in Municipal Administration from Harvard University and associate degree in Paralegal Studies from Los Angeles City College of California, United States of America.
